Several Sweatshirt of Hope volunteers went to a local Home Depot to purchase line-marking paint. They asked the clerk where to find the paint. To start a conversation the one fellow looking for the paint asked her what color she would choose and we all chuckled. The clerk looked at the HOPE shirt and asked what HOPE was about. The fellow was able to share a little of the story of why Sweatshirt of Hope was started. The clerk asked additional questions. She then asked if we ever asked Home Depot for a donation. The clerk said Home Depot likes to support community organizations trying to help others. She told these fellows to come with her and she would donate the 3 cans of paint. She started to write up a donation ticket while they talked with her. One of the fellows went to his car to get a brochure about Sweatshirt of Hope and a sweatshirt. The other fellow was able to continue the conversation and in the meantime, someone brought this clerk’s service dog into her. This clerk was dealing with issues so the fellows were able to share where our hope came from.
